6 Months Old

Okay, so I know this is a day early and I'm jumping the gun a bit, but I thought I'd go ahead and post Shay's six-month stats. We took her for her check-up on Saturday. She is now 27 inches long, puts her in the 90th percentile. She now weighs 14 pounds and 10 ounces. The doctor said this puts her "slightly below the 50th percentile," but I seem to know an awful lot of kids that passed the 14 pound mark at 3 or 4 months. At any rate, it seems that our estimate of "tall and skinny" is holding true so far! Her head is 17 inches around, which puts her up in the 75th percentile. Glad it wasn't that big when she was born!

Because Shay is now a big girl, it's time to start her on solid foods. She has been eating rice cereal for about two months, but now it's time to break out the fruits and vegetables. We tried her with sweet peas this afternoon, and shockingly, she loved them. Bryn rejected green vegetables from the very beginning (and still does), but Shay gobbled them right up. She actually leaned forward to get the spoon, and when I tried to switch her to the bottle after a small serving, she rejected her beloved bottle and reached for the spoon again. Wow. I guess a love of veggies will keep her skinny though! See below for a picture of Shay's first bite of green...

A girl after our own heart. Chris loved his green veggies. Maybe she'll love avocado too!

Are you sure she really liked those green sweet peas?! Her face looks like she is not so sure! Anyway, I hope she continues to eat her yummy greens and grow strong and healthy!
